As you may be aware, Emerald ash borer is threatening millions of ash trees across the Midwest. These insects slowly kill ash trees by feeding on the tissue which transports water within the tree. Since the pest was first found in Michigan in 2002, it has killed over 40 million ash trees in the states ranging from Maryland to Minnesota, even down to Tennessee. Ever since its discovery, an immense amount of research has gone into insecticide options for protecting ash trees from EAB.
Now PlantCare Science is providing that protection for homeowners to actually treat their own trees.
A good source for independent information on treatment options is “Insecticide Options for Protecting Ash Trees from Emerald Ash Borer.” This guide was produced by leading researchers from Michigan State, Purdue University, University of Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Illinois University. Research recommends the active ingredient, imidacloprid, to fight Emerald ash borer. Optrol’s double rate was cited as the only effective rate to protect larger ash trees against EAB.
